GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC, NOT A MODERN COPY. This item is over 120 years old. Image size: 3.5 inches x 5 inches (85 x 130 mm.) approximately. Supplied within a professional mount ready for any standard 7 x 9 inch frame of your own choice.
'Steel engraving' was the most important method of book and magazine illustration throughout the Victorian age. Fine artists and engravers such as William Boot and W. H. Overend mastered the discipline of engraving their subject matter onto hard steel printing plates which allowed for finer lines and longer print runs than the earlier copper based plates. The 'new technology' led to a spate of publications often produced in monthly instalments which brought glimpses of towns, villages and scenes into the Victorian drawing room. These same items now make superb, unusual decorative reminders of a bygone age! Powered by eBay Turbo ListerStonehenge From The East Superb Antique Engraving 1880s
