Antique Meyssens Engraving - Baudouin, Count Of Flanders (d 961) - Original 1663
This antique engraving is of Count Baudouin III of Flanders and is no 11 from "Effigies des Forestiers et Comtes de Flandres" a publication of designs by Jean (Johannes) Meyssens prepared by his son Cornille Meyssens in 1663. The (translated) Old French caption of the engraving describes the Count: "Baudouin III, Count of Flanders, son and heir of his father who was still alive but crippled by age. He ruled for only three years, dying of smallpox in 961AD, leaving a son Arnould by his wife Mathilde, daughter of Heriman, Duke of Saxony, who remarried Godfrey the Captive, Count of Verdun, and passed away in 1009, interred at Blandin." The engraving is in excellent condition with only minor foxing. The unmounted folio is 12 inches (297mm) x 8 inches (197mm). The engraving itself is 7 inches (170mm) x 5 inches (120mm). (Packaging will include a hardboard mount to prevent creasing.) Antique Meyssens Engraving - Baudouin, Count Of Flanders (d 961) - Original 1663
